Androgenous appeal

Andrej Pejic

Believe it: The model pictured above is a man.

Wow, he gives the phrase “pretty boy” an entirely new meaning.

The fashion-savvy among you will recognize the model as Andrej Pejic. As Vogue Australia puts it, “Bosnian-born, Australian-raised Andrej Pejic is one of fashion’s most beautiful and controversial figures. Between the strong bone structure, wiry frame and platinum locks, there isn’t a designer that would turn this stunner away—especially since Pejic is as comfortable modelling men’s ready-to-wear as he is women’s couture.”

The following is an excerpt taken from the Vogue Australia website:

  • He was discovered whilst in secondary school by the director of Chadwick Models, though it is unclear if the scout knew he was male. The teenager’s jarringly effeminate looks and remarkable self-confidence soon caught the eyes of both men’s and womenswear designers.
  • His first major editorial spread was for Vogue Paris. This visibility led to work for Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs and, quite astonishingly, a lingerie campaign for the Dutch retailer HEMA.
  • After Pejic shot a topless cover for Dossier Journal magazine, American bookstores deemed the photo too racy and covered it with an opaque sleeve.
  • He has earned the 18th spot on models.com Top 50 Male Models list and been named one of Out magazine’s 100 Most Compelling People of 2011.

Simply fascinating. I’m not sure how to wrap my head around this… A male model is helping to epitomize the current standards for unattainable female beauty? Society, how 2013 of you.

He is the posterboy for fashion androgyny. I cant really elaborate because its late here but yeah, I admire any kind of androgyny. It was considered beautiful in the ancient greek and I think will always be like this. Wish him all the luck=)

      2. Awesome and I totally get what you’re saying. Thanks!

Byoutiful to you? Comment!
