When I was riding the F towards West 4th street this evening I noticed advertising for BAM and was reminded of last year’s gorgeous BAM advertising campaign.
For those of you who don’t know, BAM is the Brooklyn Academy of Music. According to bam.org, BAM is a “multi-arts center…For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas—engaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters.”
Last year BAM treated NYC to a slew of enchanting ads touting its 150th anniversary. I don’t even know how to begin raving about this ad campaign. These images are so moving, so awe-inspiring and so provoking that they really transport the viewer into the world of these performances.
Are the pedestrians featured in the images just plain daydreaming about the art they experienced at BAM? Or are we being invited into a stream of consciousness in which their environment is reflecting the performances? It doesn’t really matter to me, because looking at these images makes me feel light and ethereal, like I’m part of a fantasy. Love it, love it, love it. I could not get enough of these images last year. Pure marketing genius.
Any other New Yorkers out there remember oogling these while on the go? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
